The development of information technology has driven the transformation of business transactions from the use of conventional documents and negotiable instruments toward electronic forms. This change has raised legal issues concerning the legal status of electronic negotiable instruments, the validity of their use, their evidentiary strength, and legal protection for the parties involved in transactions. This study aims to analyze the legal status of electronic negotiable instruments within the Indonesian legal system and the forms of legal protection for parties using them in modern business transactions. This study employs normative legal research methods with a statutory approach and a conceptual approach. The results show that electronic information and documents have, in principle, been recognized as valid legal evidence under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, provided that they meet the requirements stipulated by laws and regulations. The use of electronic signatures can also provide legal force and valid legal consequences when they meet the requirements of authentication, integrity, identification of the signatory, and consent to the electronic document. However, the legal status of electronic negotiable instruments is not determined solely by recognition of electronic documents, but must also take into account the characteristics and specific provisions applicable to the type of negotiable instrument concerned. Legal protection for the parties can be achieved through the implementation of reliable electronic systems, the use of certified electronic signatures, authentication and verification mechanisms, as well as the regulation of liability in the event of misuse or unauthorized alteration of data. Thus, the use of electronic negotiable instruments has a legal basis in modern business transactions in Indonesia, but regulatory harmonization and the strengthening of security and evidentiary mechanisms are still necessary to ensure legal certainty and balanced protection for all parties.
