KAJIAN TAFSIR KLASIK DALAM KITAB TAFSIR IBNU KATSIR

Abstrak

Tafsir Ibn Kathir is one of the most influential classical Qur’anic commentaries in Islamic scholarship. This study aims to examine the biography of Ibn Kathir, his methods and approaches of interpretation, examples of his exegesis, and the strengths and weaknesses of his tafsir. The study employs a library research method using descriptive analysis. The findings show that Ibn Kathir primarily used the tafsir bi al-ma’thur approach, relying on the Qur’an, Hadith, and narrations from the Companions and Tabi'in. His tafsir is recognized for its authenticity and systematic presentation, although it provides limited contextual discussion of contemporary issues. Therefore, Tafsir Ibn Kathir remains an important reference in Qur’anic studies.
